We will be adding several key features to the NATCA Portal this year, and we encourage all members to become familiar with the Portal. We stand ready to assist if needed! Click here if you have a question. SURFACE WATCH: RECOGNIZING GREAT WORK IN TERMINAL FACILITIES Surface operations are critically important to our safety record. Together, NATCA and the FAA are addressing top trends for surface safety events, including wrong surface landings, runway flyovers, clearing landings/takeoffs on occupied runways, and readback/hearback issues. Proactive leadership, swift actions, and teamwork come together to save lives. We want to hear about these successes. Surface Watch is a recognition program jointly sponsored by NATCA and the FAA. It acknowledges individuals and teams of controllers and supervisors for their exemplary saves and initiatives that focus on the surface environment. Sept. 21, 2018 Rocking New Procedures from Motown to Cleveland Hi everyone, We wrapped up our newest airspace redesign involving the Detroit and Cleveland areas this month, and this collaborative effort is already providing benefits. We implemented 77 procedures, including 64 Performance Based Navigation (PBN) routes, at Detroit Metropolitan Airport, Cleveland-Hopkins International Airport, and 17 satellite airports, including a Canadian partner, Windsor Airport in Ontario. The Metroplex project allows us to increase efficiency and throughput. At Detroit, for example, we can now do triple simultaneous arrivals, which we hadn't been able to do before. That's great news for our airline partners who have been working with us on these changes, especially Delta Air Lines, which has a hub at Detroit.
