Tina Fey Explains Positive Influences of Great Bosses, 'How to Get the Eggs'
Hi everyone,
There's an interesting passage in comedian Tina Fey's bestselling book "Bossypants,"
where she talks about what she learned from Saturday Night Live creator Lorne
Michaels. The former SNL star said she was struck by the way Lorne would connect
with his whole team, even performers she perceived as a bit too needy. Lorne was
infinitely patient with those writers and actors because he knew they were still capable
of turning out their best work, and they produced for him. "He knew how to get the
eggs," Tina wrote.
That's the kind of observation we're interested in as we launch a new IdeaHub
challenge. We're asking what kind of leadership behaviors you have observed
or experienced in the workplace that made you highly motivated and committed
to your work. In other words, what leadership actions have you seen that could "get the
eggs."
The challenge is a direct result of your feedback. Those of you who filled out the
Federal Employee Viewpoint Survey indicated that even though we are improving, we
have quite a bit of work to do in the area of leaders motivating and inspiring respect
from their team. Some of you also said you don't feel encouraged to come up with new
and better ways of doing your work.
