19 SOUTHWEST SOUTHWEST REGION REGION toward the only viable path beneath the cloud layer. After circling above the airport, N9573V was able to descend in visual meteorological conditions (VMC) and safely land at PSX. BGST312 confirmed the aircraft was safely on the ground. Faced with an aircraft experiencing mechanical problems, deteriorating weather conditions and few remaining landing options, Albrecht, Almeter, and Juhl combined their skills and resources to find a way forward. Their coordination — including the innovative use of real-time weather reports from another aircraft — helped guide the pilot safely through the clouds and onto the ground. They represent the very best of NATCA and the Southwest Region. Congratulations to the 2026 Southwest Region Archie League Medal of Safety Award recipients: Matthew Albrecht, Kenneth Almeter, and Theresa Juhl! By Anita Johnson (Albuquerque ATCT, ABQ)
