23 REGION X REGION X Throughout the process, Slover met resistance and had to address many "better" ideas, including plans to migrate these legacy systems to a native IP interface, pay a provider to deliver the conversion as part of a service, and address minimal support for an FAA owned conversion appliance. In the end, Slover's work is culminating with more than three thousand CASS devices being installed in the NAS delivering approximately twenty thousand services safely and transitioning the FAA from a TDM to an IP telecommunications network. In addition to VOR, AWOS, ASOS, Slover's dedication and steadfastness were instrumental to the Runway Visual Range (RVR) system, the Instrument Landing System (ILS), Terminal Doppler Weather Radar (TDWR), the Integrated Terminal Weather System (ITWS), the Low-Level Wind Shear Alert System (LLWAS), the Digital Altimeter Setting Indicator system (DASI), the Surface Weather System (SWS), the Stand Alone Weather System (SAWS), and ground to ground voice communication. These systems are critical for a safe NAS. Mark Slover is the epitome of commitment to safety. Congratulations to the 2026 Region X Commitment to Safety Award recipient: Mark Slover!
