Branson National Airport (SGF), where
weather conditions were better. Following
continuous assistance and guidance, N9496M
landed safely at SGF without further incident.
The true effect of the incident became clear
weeks later. On Jan. 28, while returning to the
airspace, the pilot asked about the controller
working N9496M on Jan. 2. The pilot told
another controller that the individual working
N9496M on Jan. 2 had "literally saved my
life." He later sent a letter to the facility
expressing his profound gratitude for Nygren's
efforts and professionalism.
Nygren's exceptional situational awareness,
sound judgment, and decisive actions
helped prevent what could have been a fatal
accident. His professionalism, composure, and
unwavering commitment to the safety of those
who depend on the National Airspace System
are a testament to the extraordinary skill and
dedication of America's air traffic controllers.
Congratulations to the 2026
Central Region Archie League
