THE DELEGATE 8 THURSDAY • OCTOBER 2, 2014 Volunteers of America – Minnesota voamn.org V o l u n t e e r s o f A m e r i c a – Minnesota helps people gain self-reliance, dignity, and hope through charitable programs that improve health and human services in the state of Minnesota. As one of the state's oldest and largest charitable organizations, Volunteers of America – Minnesota has been helping people for over 117 years. The organization focuses on seniors and people with special needs, children, youth and families, and rehabilitative and veterans services. The organization boasts strong stewardship, finishing fiscal year 2013 with a surplus of $167,101, a 17 percent increase of charitable support, and a renewal of funding from governmental agencies such as the Dept. of Housing and Urban Development. Dorothy Day Center cctwincities.org/DorothyDayCenter The Dorothy Day Center is a resource center and s h e l t e r p r o g ra m t h a t provides meals, mental health services, medical care, and much more to help people suffering from homelessness. Aer dinner is served seven days a week, the building is transformed into an emergency shelter with space for 200 people. The center also runs a women's shelter that provides temporary housing to 42 single women. The women are offered counseling, education and training, and recreational activities. Initial funding has been secured for Dorothy Day ReVision, a two phase, two building, $65 million project which will include increased affordable housing, dignified shelter space, and a connection center. This ReVision will be realized in the heart of downtown Saint Paul in close proximity to the existing Dorothy Day Center. Proceeds from the race will benefit the local charities featured in The Delegate each day. Thank you and congratulations to all our participants!
