ISSUE: INTERRUPTIONS TO THE FUNDING STREAM
Interruptions to the funding stream have
negatively affected all aspects of the FAA.
Unstable, unpredictable funding results in furloughs,
possible tower closures, fix-on-fail maintenance
policies, and the curtailing of air traffic services in
smaller markets.
Without a stable and predictable funding stream,
our NAS is in jeopardy of falling behind on
efficiency, capacity, and most importantly, safety.
Unpredictable funding can result in unpaid furloughs and uncertainty about when or if members will be
paid. A lack of a stable funding stream can also mean delayed implementation of modern technology, a delay
in the repair of current equipment, and a delay in hiring and training the next generation of controllers and
aviation safety professionals.
THE BOTTOM LINE: An unstable funding stream leads to a more stressful, less productive
work environment for current and future generations of aviation safety professionals.
