ISSUE: SEQUESTRATION CONTINUES
Sequester cuts or budget caps could result in another hiring freeze, furloughs of our
members, potential facility closures, reductions in service hours, and a fix-on-fail
equipment maintenance policy. Additionally, NATCA members could expect increased
required overtime and cancelation of annual leave in order to keep the operation running.

While sequestration was put on hold for FY 2014 and 2015,
congressional appropriators will either need to meet the
mandatory spending caps or face across-the-board cuts
again in FY 2016, potentially starting on October 1, 2015.
After experiencing significant air traffic delays due to
furloughs in April 2013, Congress passed the Reducing
Flight Delays Act, which allowed the FAA a special
exception to take money from the Airport Improvement
Program (AIP) fund.
The affects of indiscriminate, across-the-board spending
cuts are unacceptable: furloughs in 2013, a fix-on-fail
maintenance policy, halted workgroups working on
modernization projects, and threatened tower closures.
