ISSUE: OFFICIAL TIME
Official time enables NATCA representatives to effectively act on behalf of our members
at the local, regional, and national levels. Without official time, many small issues that
could be solved in a short period of time could potentially take weeks or months to
resolve, and at a higher cost to tax payers.

Official time gives employees paid time
to resolve disputes, negotiate working
conditions, and collaborate on workgroups.
By law, Congress established official time to ensure
that all workers receive fair representation. Yet
every year a bill is introduced to limit or abolish
official time.
The elimination of official time would prevent
NATCA members from working with the FAA on
procedures vital to the success of NextGen.
