AGENDA n i w . n a t c a . n e t MAY 18-20, 2015 SOCIAL MEDIA AND THE HATCH ACT (columbia b) The Hatch Act is the law that governs political activity of federal employees. Knowledge of the Hatch Act is essential for any activist who will be participating in NATCA's legislative efforts. In this class, you will learn what you can and cannot do as a federal employee with regard to political and legislative activity, and how to comply while using social media. Attorneys from the Hatch Act Division of the Office of Special Counsel, the office that investigates and prosecutes all Hatch Act violations, will teach this class. This course is highly recommended for all NiW first-timers, especially those who have not attended Basic Legislative Activism training. ALL THINGS PAC (regency d) This class will review information that every NATCA activist needs to know about the NATCA PAC and the laws under which it operates. This class is not a solicitation to join the PAC. It will teach our activists how the NATCA PAC operates. We will cover PAC law basics and how the NATCA PAC complies. We will discuss the role that the NATCA PAC plays in educating others about NATCA's positions on issues and building relationships with our elected officials. We will talk about many of the common myths and untruths that exist about the NATCA PAC. CONGRESS 101: STRUCTURE (regency foyer) Join NATCA's Legislative Team to learn who's who on Capitol Hill. In this class, you'll learn from Government Affairs (GA) staff and the NLC how the House and Senate work together, the makeup of political parties, and how committees and subcommittees are structured. CONGRESS 102: PROCESS (regency c) How are laws really made? In this class, you'll join GA staff and the NLC to learn about the rules and procedures that govern Congress.
