WEEKLY MESSAGE FROM ATO COO TERI L. BRISTOL
A Look Back at 2015
Hi everyone. The end of the year is always a good time to reflect back on what
we've accomplished. This year we conducted more than 15.6 million operations, with a
completion rate of more than 98%.
To ensure safety, we proactively implemented 26 corrective actions against the
FY15 Top 5 Hazard List, which covered items involving surface memory aids, misapplied
visual separation, weather information dissemination, and two items that involved
Opposite Direction Operations. In June, we held a Runway Safety Call to Action with
more than 100 people from the aviation community. Together, we developed 29
recommendations, for which we've now developed detailed implementation plans.

installed or substantially upgraded STARS at 20 facilities, including large TRACONs like
Northern Cal, Southern Cal and Atlanta. We implemented Data Communications
departure clearance services at three key site towers. We completed 68 Performance
Based Navigation (PBN) single-site projects and two Metroplex projects (NorCal and
Washington DC), delivering a total of 543 PBN procedures throughout the NAS. We also
worked with offices across the FAA to complete a draft of the PBN NAS Navigation
Strategy, a 15-year comprehensive plan detailing the components that will evolve us
toward a future PBN-based airspace system.
In addition, we increased digital processing of aeronautical charts and
procedures, and eliminated in house printing avoiding over $4 million in distribution,
utilities and lease costs, now and in the future. We helped develop the agency's
