WEEKLY MESSAGE FROM ATO COO TERI L. BRISTOL Jan. 29, 2016: Runway Safety in Action Hi everyone. Runway safety has been an area where our collaboration with the aviation community has made a big difference. Since 2008, we've driven down the rate of serious runway incursions by 44 percent. But we kn ow there is still risk in the system. In fact, earlier this week, there was an incursion at Detroit Metro airport. ASDE - X alerted the controller in time so an accident could be avoided, proving the benefit of our investment in this technology. But events l ike this one reaffirm the need to continue our proactive and collaborative safety efforts.
