WEEKLY MESSAGE FROM ATO COO TERI L. BRISTOL FAA Reauthorization Hi everyone. During yesterday's Town Hall, Administrator Huerta and Deputy Administrator Whitaker di scussed and answered questions about a proposal in the House for the FAA's reauthorization, which is legislation that provides authority for the FAA to perform our functions as an agency and collect revenue through the Airport and Airway Trust Fund. As you know, Congress approved a short - term extension of our authorization last fall, which is set to expire on March 31, 2016. The House bill proposes a restructuring of the FAA, as it calls for a federally chartered, not - for - profit corporation to run the air t raffic control system. FAA and DOT are currently reviewing the proposal that ' s already gone through some changes as the result of the legislative process. The House ' s work this week marks the beginning of what could be a very long process. Let me reiterate a couple of very important things that Administrator Huerta said this week. First, we believe that any legislation under consideration should support the following core principles: maintaining the safest aerospace system in the world; modernizing the FAA' s air traffic control system; supplying stable funding for air traffic operations and NextGen; recapitalizing our aging facilities; and enabling the safe integration of new users, like unmanned aircraft and commercial s pace operations, into the NAS. Second , we believe strongly that our people are the key to our success. Because of you, the FAA maintains the safest, most efficient aerospace system in the world. Because of you, we're modernizing the airspace system through NextGen, and delivering benefits lik e reduced flight times, fuel usage and emissions. Because of you, we're also proactively identifying and mitigating potential risks in the system. I want to thank all of you for what you do, every day, to help us accomplish our vital mission. Let's continu e to work hard and stay focused on the important work that we do every day. As always, your efforts ensure that we remain the gold standard in aviation throughout the world. If you have questions about reauthorization, you can sub mit them to questions@faa.gov . We'll be working to address these questions on a regular basis on a new Frequently Asked Questions website you'll soon be able to access on MyFAA.gov . Thanks everyone, T eri L.
