Sometimes it's smart to use a credit card. Many cards offer purchase protection or
awa rd points. As long as you pay off your balance every month, using your card can be
to your benefit.
However, there are times when paying with a credit card isn't smart unless you can
quickly pay off the balance. Avoid paying for utilities, cell phone, or cable bills with your
card because the interest you'll pay won't be worth it. Refrain from paying for student
loans with your card and instead try to work out a payment plan or ask for forbearance.
Resist from paying medical bills with your card. If your p rovider offers a medical credit
card to pay for services, read the fine print or ask about a payment arrangement. Also,
