NATCA TO HOST TWO PANELS MARCH 17 HONORING THE BEST IN AIR TRAFFIC CONTROL Next week (March 23), for the 12th consecutive year, the National Air Traffic Controllers Association (NATCA) will honor the very best examples of United States controllers ensuring the safe handling and landing of aircraft in challenging or emergency situations. They will be presented with the Archie League Medal of Safety Award. Named for the first air traffic controller, the Archie League Awards recognize the ability to think quickly and remain calm under pressure while maintaining situational awareness. Air traffic controllers at the top of their profession have a willingness to jump right in to resolve complex situations, offer a reassuring voice to those on the frequency, and coordinate their efforts with other controllers. While many controllers often feel that they are "just doing their job," their hard work is viewed by others as remarkable and extraordinary. The Archie League Awards program highlights a variety of "saves" – some of which involve a team of controllers working together and others which are the result of one controller's efforts. We know these types of saves occur all over the world. We would love to encourage you to start your own recognition program in your home countries. If you would like any assistance or guidance, please contact NATCA Director of Communications Doug Church, dchurch@natcadc.org.
