CLEARANCE RELAY AND IFR FL IGHT CANCELLATIONS BRIEFING On May 30, 2016, NATCA received a briefing on changes to Clearance Relay and IFR Flight Cancellations. This initiative is part of the Agency's efforts to discontinue certain services currently provided by Lockheed Martin Flight Services. Currently, Flight Service relays clearances to pilots via telephone at airports that lack direct radio communications with Air Traffic Control or Flight Service. Flight Service also relays cancellations of IFR flight plans from pilots to air tr affic control. Upon adoption of this change, pilots will obtain a clearance and have the ability to cancel IFR flight plans via telephone by calling the appropriate air traffic facility directly. Pilots requesting clearan ces out of airports via radio are u naffected by this change. A collaborative NATCA - FAA workgroup has been involved in implementing this change. That group is continuing to work on an implementation plan regarding this initiative.
