Official Time Threats : Anti - official time amendments freque ntly come up on the House floor during consideration of appropriations bills. During consideration of last year's Mil - Con VA bill in the House, an amendment was offered by Rep. Jody Hice (R - GA) that would have eliminated official time for federal employees serving at the Department of Veterans Affairs. NATCA GA successfully defeated the amendment when it came up for a vote. GA staff remains prepared in case a similar amendment is offered to any appropriations bills during consideration on the House and Sena te floor. COMMUNICATIONS DEPARTMENT DEPARTMENT HOSTS SUCCESSFUL MEDIA TRAINING CLASS : On Tuesday, June 7, NATCA hosted its fourth media training at the National Press Club in Washington, D.C. Fifteen NATCA representatives from throughout the country at tended this half - day training, led by NATCA Communications Department ' s Sarah McCann and Doug Church. NATCA President Paul Rinaldi opened the training, during which representatives learned about managing the media, controlling an interview and they practic ed on - camera interviews. The day ended with an off - the - record reception with aviation and transportation reporters, as well as with communications representations from other aviation associations and organizations. The day was a great success, and we look forward to teaching the next training in November. A big thank you to NATCA's leadership for their support of this training, and to our reps, for attending!
