SHIFT SWAPS AND CHANGES The Employer shall approve the exchange of shifts and/or days off by employees of equal qualifications, provided the exchange does not result in overtime. Employees will normally be allowed a fifteen (15) minute rest period within a three (3) hour work period in a time and pla ce and in a manner that does not interfere with efficiency of operations. Rest periods may not be used to extend lunch period or to shorten the workday. Breaks for smoking are included in this fifteen (15) minute period. ARTICLE 25 OVERTIME Section 1. Overtime hours will be compensated at the appropriate rates in accordance with applicable law and regulations. Section 2. The Employer retains the right to assign overtime to meet new or emergency requirements. Section 3. Overtime shall be assigned on a fair and equitable basis to qualified employees. The process for fair and equitable assignment of overtime for BUEs shall be: A. The Employer shall maintain a written roster of qualified bargaining unit employees who have indicated a desire to work overt ime. B. The roster shall be sorte d first by seniority, and after each overtime assignment has been made, by total hours for the current fiscal year. The roster will be sorted by total hours overtime performed for the current year after each overtime assignm ent has been made. C. The Employer shall maintain a running total of overtime hours worked and/or refused on a roster. This roster shall be reset to zero at the beginning of each fiscal year.
