THE DELEGATE WEDNESDAY, AUGUST 31, 2016 15 The work of the Air Safety Investigations (ASI) Committee is invaluable to NATCA. As air traffic controllers, we prefer our daily operations to be uneventful. However, we must be prepared for unexpected and unfortunate situations. When emergencies occur, it's crucial for us as individuals, and as a Union, to have subject matter experts participating in post-event investigations. ASI's highly-trained air safety investigators are on-call and ready to provide a controller-based perspective to National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) investigations when air traffic services have been provided. Air safety investigators assist or work with the NTSB to formulate recommendations to prevent future occurrences. Our mentorship program is an excellent way to get involved with the ASI Committee. It allows you to begin various types of training with the ASI team, learn the many aspects involved with accident and incident investigations, and gain valuable experience. While a position on the Committee is not guaranteed, should one become available, the mentees are trained to step up. Please stop by the ASI booth to learn more about this great committee and how you can get involved! ✪ ASI COMMITTEE: Become a Mentee!
