83 APPENDIX C GENERAL MEDICAL STANDARD REQUIREMENTS FOR DoN CIVILIAN AIR TRAFFIC CONTROLLERS a. Vision 1. Visual Acuity, Distant and Near vision (DVA / NVA) No limit uncorrec ted. Physical qualification requires correct to 20/20 or better in each eye. 2. Refraction Error There is no limit on refraction. Manifest required on DVA >20/20. 3. PHORIAS Submit actual measurements of NOHOSH as appropriate. Standards are 6 esophoria, 6 exophoria, and 1.5 hyperphoria. 4. Depth perception: Not required. 5. Color vision Must pass PIP 12/14, FALANT 9/9 or 16/18, or ISHIHARA 12/14. 6. Intraocular pressure (IOP) testing for Glaucoma Must demonstrate <22 mm Hg and no more than 5 difference between eyes. b. Hearing 1. Hearing Test. Frequency Better ear Worse ear 500 HZ 35 DB 35 DB 1000 HZ 30 DB 50 DB 2000 HZ 30 DB 50 DB Hearing Loss. No hearing loss in either ear of more than 30 decibels in either the 500, 1000, or 2000 HZ ranges. No loss in these ranges greater than 25 decibels in the better ear. Nonstatic hearing loss in either ear of greater than 50 decibels in the 4000 HZ range will require an otological consultation. c. Speech Spe ech must be demonstrated as clear and distinct, voice well modulated. d. Blood pressure Systolic must be <140 and diastolic must be <90. There is no specific lower limit, however there can be no evidence of orthostatic hypotension.
