WEEKLY MESSAGE FROM ATO COO TERI L. BRISTOL
Year - End Reflections and a Fond Farewell
Hi everyone. For many of us, September 30 is nothing more than the end of the
month. But this is a ver y busy time in the ATO. I'd like to discuss some of the important
budget work being done, discuss performance closeouts, and then end with a very
special tribute.
At the end of each fiscal year, we have to balance the ATO's yearly operations
budget of more than $7.5 billion. We have to make sure that all financial obligations have
been met, including employee pay and benefits, contracts, utilities, and many others. It
might sound simple but there are a lot of mechanics involved. For example, we have to
empl oy cutoffs for things like travel and other expenses, but flexibly work with service
units to spend money on these things if needed.
