QUESTION OF THE WEEK What is NATCA's official public position on the issue of fund ing the ATC system and possible system reform efforts ? Here is our statement, whic h we sent to several reporters last week upon request after the meeting at the White House between the President and airline executives: NATCA's primary objective remains the same: to achieve a stable, predictable funding stream for the National Airspace S ystem (NAS). NATCA will review any new proposal and evaluate it based on whether it protects workforce rights and benefits, maintains safety and efficiency as the top priorities, creates funding certainty, and maintains service to all segments of the aviat ion community. PRESS CLIP OF THE WEEK Daily Bulletin - Southern California Flight Paths in and out of Ontario Airport to change sli ghtly Featuring member Mike Taylor (SCT) From the story: " As a flight controller overseeing the Inland Empire skies, Mike Taylor is no stranger to challenges when issuing complex directions to pilots as they descend onto the flight path for Ontario Inter national Airport. " That path, which follows the Cajon Pass — and several San Bernardino County communities to the east — some 9,000 feet above the ground, is taxing because of the surrounding terrain and wind conditions, Taylor said. " Under a new program by the Federal Aviation Administration , pilots would follow a more direct and programmed flight path into Ontario, he said. "' It 's a lot safer and more stable,' Taylor sai d. " MEMBER FOCUS OF THE WEEK Kyle McHugh, Cleveland Center Q: Do you have any family members who were involved in unions? McHugh : I come from a strong union family. My father was a member of PATCO, my grandfather was in the United Steelworkers Union (USW) , my other grandfather was in the Communications Union, and my grandmother was a member of the Teachers Union.
