Q: How did you get involved in NATCA activism? McHugh : I asked to get involved because as I saw many members retiring, I knew that I didn ' t want to be a member that just paid dues and did nothing else. To date, I have been ZOB Secretary, Great Lakes Rep on the Finance Committee, and I am currently serving as Chairman of the Finance Committee. Q: What made you decide to take on leadership roles wi thin NATCA? McHugh : Just like every member that takes on a leadership role in NATCA, I wanted to make our Union better and I wanted to help our members in any way I could. Named for the first air traffic controller, the Arch ie League Medal of Safety Award honors air traffic controllers who have performed life - saving work in the previous calendar year. NATCA 30 th ANNIVERSARY (1987 - 20 17) : Our Year - Long Celebration Last Week's Focus: NATCA's First CBA With the FAA On January 13, 1989, NATCA and the FAA reached a tentative agreement on their first contract.
