The current aviation system has served us well until recent years. Unfortunately, the FAA no
longer has a stable, predictable funding stream, and this uncertainty has caused many serious
problems for the NAS and NATCA members. It is our hope that the next FAA Reauthorization
bill will be a comprehensive, long-term solution that will improve on the status quo, which is
unacceptable, and address the stop-and-go funding issue. NATCA also seeks to use the FAA
Reauthorization bill as a vehicle to advance policy provisions that are critical to the system and
our workforce.
HOW THIS ISSUE AFFECTS
NATCA MEMBERS:
ISSUE: FAA REAUTHORIZATION
QUICK REFERENCE
The FAA is currently operating under an extension to its
authorization, which expires on September 30, 2017.
NATCA will consider any ATC reform proposal that at least
meets our Four Core Principles for Reform, as long as the
proposal does not maintain the status quo or result in a for-
profit ATC system.
Last year, NATCA supported Chairman Shuster's AIRR
Act because it provided a solution to the funding stream
uncertainty and was consistent with our Four Core Principles
for Reform.
