On May 31, a group of FAA headquarters personnel visited Charlotte to receive a first - hand briefing o n ATD - 2 from NASA. After that, the group toured CLT tower and TRACON to observe the equipment in place so as to gain a better understanding of how it will be used and how it is believed it will improve the efficiency of CLT airport surface operations. The group also visited the American airlines ramp tower and saw how automated communication and coordination between the ramp and the FAA will be vastly improved by using the NASA ATD - 2 technology. NASA engineers will be refining the software over the summer and will continue seeking input from end users of the system at both the CLT TMU unit and the American Airlines ramp tower. We will continue to look out for the best interests of the workforce as this research activity reaches the final stages before it go es into use at the end of September of this year. Human Factors Activities There is a new workgroup called No - Experience Direct Hire Initial Screen (NDIS) . This is a collaborative workgroup working on a process to modify the throughput process to bring off the street hires into higher - level facilities. The HP team is a SME at this juncture. Certification Standards/N90 : The training and implementation of the standards at N90 has stopped. My understanding is that the NDI S group I mentioned above is being done in lieu of. However, there still needs to be validation of the standards that were developed at N90. As a refresher, they are TRACON specific standards. The majority of
