I'm excited to announce an open application window for air traffic control specialis ts, starting today and ending July 14. This vacancy announcement is open to the public, and we're hoping to attract as many qualified candidates as possible. You can click here to share this news on Facebook , YouTube , Twitter , Instagram , and LinkedIn . As of July 3, we are 91% to our FY2017 goal of hiring 1,781 new controllers. Of these, 1,281 are either attending the FAA Academy in Oklahoma City or have completed classes. These hires include CTI school graduates, former military without qua lifying air traffic experience, and the general public. Three - hundred and forty - three were hired from an announcement seeking individuals with 52 weeks of either military or contract tower experience — these individuals do not attend the Academy, and are p laced directly at a facility. This will be the second year in a row that the FAA has met or exceeded our hiring goal. The goal for FY2018 is 1,701. We have worked hard to maximize the effort to recruit, test, hire, and train our controller workforce. O ur objectives include increasing the diversity of our candidate pool, boosting the efficiency of the testing process, providing excellent education and training at the FAA Academy, and enhancing the experience through on - the - job training. We also maintain the highest standards for professional controller certification. Through these initiatives we have grown our controller workforce by approximately 12 percent annually since FY16. Please help us spread the word. If you know someone who would make a great controller, refer them to www.faa.gov/jobs before the hiring window closes next Friday. The initial application process takes no more than one hour to complete. Before I sign off, I want to remind everyone that the 2017 NAS First, People Always ATO Awards Ceremony is taking place on August 15 at headquarters in Washington, D . C. This event will also be str eamed live. As I do every year, I look forward to the opportunity to recognize the outstanding work taking place across the country and in every corner of our organization. Thanks everyone! Teri L. Bristol ATO Chief Operating Officer
