NEW FLYER PUSHES IMPORTANCE OF SAFETY REPORTING SYSTEM "When In Doubt, Fill It Out" The FAA and NATCA have introduced a new flyer emphasizing the importance of voluntary safety reporting programs. The flyer includes the website URLs where members can go to file reports. Click here for the flyer . MEMBER FOCUS OF THE WEEK: Juan Ledesma, Providence Juan, who be gan his FAA career at Jacksonville in 2009, has been very legislatively active while working in New England since 2010. He was honored at NATCA in Washington this year with the New England Regional Legislative Award. Question: How did you become a NATCA m ember? Juan: " I joined during my first meeting with my FacRep in JAX. We were freshly out of the White Book and that allowed me to see the sacrifices that our brothers and sisters made during the previous three years for the betterment of future generatio ns. I realized then that I had to give back, like the controllers before me did for us." Read more . TURN OFF TUNE IN: A PERSONAL PLEA TO STOP DISTR ACTIONS Controllers from across the country from facilities large and small are speaking out on the impact of electronic distractions and the potentially catastrophic consequences of them in the control room. "It is that person's family, it is your family on that airplane," Brandon Miller, NATCA FacRep at Potomac TRACON, says in a new video . "And for what? A tweet? A Faceboo k message?" The joint Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) - NATCA distraction awareness campaign, Turn Off Tune In, reminds controllers to be conscious of the dangers of distractions while maintaining the highest standard of professionalism in operation.
