PUBLIC AFFAIRS DEPARTMENT BY THE NUMBERS The text message recently turned 25 years old. U.S. smartphone owners send and receive five times as many texts compared with the number of phone calls each day. (Source: Infomate). NOTABLE QUOTABLE "Mothers and daughters fly — brothers and sisters, sons and daughters, the elderly, infants, military members deploying or coming home from war — they all trust us to do our jobs. Most people don't even know what we do and they still trust us to do our jobs. It's on us to maintain that professionalism so we can keep that trust. And that goes for both on and off-duty." - Josh Cooper (Southern California TRACON, Professional Standards co-lead) who talked last week at the NATCA meet and greet event for FAA Academy students in Oklahoma City about the importance of practicing and maintaining the highest level of professionalism in the workplace. He spoke of the awesome responsibility of air traffic controllers to ensure the safety of the flying public and to do it not only with skill, passion, and dedication, but with professionalism as well. THE NATCA PORTAL: IMPROVE YOUR MEMBER EXPERIENCE Portal.natca.net The NATCA Portal is the entry point for our NATCA membership directory as well as the way to sign up for NATCA Academy classes, retirement seminars, and more. Most importantly, the Portal allows you to do two key things: Update your contact information (mailing address, phone numbers, email address), and find your membership number which is used for many things including serving as the username for your access to the Portal itself and the members side of the natca.org website. Click here to access the NATCA Portal. If you've never used the NATCA Portal before, please click here to get started. Click here to retrieve your NATCA membership number. Click here if you've been to the NATCA Portal before but cannot remember your password. Remember, your NATCA membership number is your username for both the NATCA Portal and the members side of the natca.org website. Your password is the same for both the Portal and the members side of the natca.org website as well. We will be adding several key features to the NATCA Portal this year and we encourage all members to become familiar with the Portal. We stand ready to assist if needed! Click here if you have a question. NATCA IN THE MEDIA National Media Coverage NATCA last week joined the Air Line Pilots Association, International (ALPA) and Airlines for America (A4A) in urging Congress to remove legislative restrictions that have been placed on the FAA that limit its safety oversight of Unmanned Aircraft Systems (UAS).
