SOCIAL MEDIA & THE HATCH ACT
As federal employees, we are legally restricted in what we can do and say when it comes to political activity. Come learn
what constitutes political activity and what NATCA members can and can't do politically as we advocate for our profession,
with special emphasis on social media.
Why should I attend? The Office of Special Counsel, which is responsible for enforcing the Hatch Act, will be presenting
this class as experts on the subject. Activists will get a thorough understanding of the do's and don'ts as they relate to the
Hatch Act and learn how violating the Hatch Act may affect their job.
Instructor:
Erika Hamrick is the Deputy Chief of the Hatch Act Unit in the Office of Special Counsel (OSC). The OSC is an independent,
investigative, and prosecutorial agency. Its primary mission is to safeguard the merit system in federal employment by protecting
federal employees and applicants from prohibited personnel practices, especially retaliation for whistleblowing.
