ASDE-X Taxiway Arrival Prediction (ATAP) – In 2017, the FAA developed an ASDE-X enhancement that alerts when an aircraft is aligned with a taxiway. There is a national workgroup working on getting the ATAP to all viable ASDE-X sites. ASDE-X Taxiway Arrival Prediction is a technology aid for controllers to assist in mitigating events in which an aircraft lines up with a taxiway on arrival. The following locations currently have ATAP running: SEA, ATL, BDL, PHL, CLT, and DFW. The CWG has been formed to oversee the process of enabling this enhancement of which I am the co-lead. CWG members provide each facility with a checklist of necessary steps, walk you through the information and data pertinent to your operation, and assist with local training and the local SRM. Runway Incursion Prevention Shortfall Analysis (RIPSA) – Tentatively TUS, SAT, and DAB have been selected as potential site locations after a new market survey was completed. We have also completed demos and a question and answer period with each company. There has not been a decision made on which technologies to go with at this time. We are also in the process of additional data collection with the three sites. Meetings are ongoing to determine the best viable locations for enhancements on the field. Work is currently being conducted to put together the acquisition package. The hope is to be able to review the package sometime in April. Surface Safety Group (SSG) – The last SSG meeting was cancelled due to the government shutdown, and the next SSG meeting is scheduled for the week of April 29. At this meeting, we will receive updates from the three subgroups: the Data Analysis Team, SSIT, and Outreach/Education. We will work on the 2016 SRM Action Items and the Call to Action items that are not yet completed. We will go thru a process of determining the next steps and a work plan to complete those remaining items. The SSG initially reviewed two full years (FY 2016/2017) of category A/B/C runway incursion data. In each meeting, we review the last quarters causal/contributing factors for Operational Incidents (OIs), Pilot Deviations (PDs), and Vehicle/Pedestrian Deviations (VPDs). The SSG meets quarterly in order to work thru the Call to Action items and 2016 SRM Action Items. Wrong Surface Special Focus RSATs – The Runway Safety group picked nine airports across the NAS that would benefit from a specific wrong surface RSAT discussion. I am presenting at the special focus RSAT discussing ATAP. The nine airports are PHL, BNA, SAT, AFW/FTW, CNO, STS, BOI, LNK, and ATL. The first wrong surface special focus RSAT was at PHL on March 12.
