WEATHER Eric Avila (ZHU) is NATCA's Article 114 Representative for Weather. His report is below: This is my first report and I am quickly getting established into my role and trying to determine all the different projects and teams that need my input. The main project for the ongoing future that will require the bulk of my attention is the NexGen Wx Processor (NWP) Aviation Weather Display (AWD). In addition to this, a Technical Interchange Meeting (TIM) discussing weather on the glass in terminal facilities has started. Raytheon has begun to fully staff its team to start working on the AWD again after the shutdown. The team was fully back up and running the first week of March. The team met with the Raytheon team to discuss resuming work on version 6 of the AWD and how things will progress moving forward. The Raytheon team spent the first week of March getting plugged back into the program and we began meeting with the team to give input to the AWD the second week of March. A meeting was also held to discuss the NWP Initial Operational Capacity (IOC) based on a possible passed implementation of what CSS-Wx can support. The meeting was mainly an overview of all of the weather products that the CSS-Wx will support and a future meeting will be held to discuss which products will be available at IOC and which items will not be ready. The CSS-Wx being developed by Harris is behind schedule and also delaying Raytheon's ability to fully test the AWD with live data. Schedule: • March 12-13 – NWP test TIM • March 19-20 – NWP Training TIM • March 21 – NWP Program Management Review (PMR) The TIM for weather on the glass for terminal facilities group has had two meetings to discuss the current weather being displayed in terminal environments and any improvements that can be made in the short term. An Operational Needs Assessment (ONA) is being developed to explain issues related to weather on the glass in terminal facilities along with their impacts.
