Currently, turbulence reporting is subjective and often times pilots report the intensity of turbulence differently. EDR takes the pilot's subjective view out of determining the intensity and instead measures an EDR value. Based on the size of the airplane, pilots can use EDR values to determine the severity of expected turbulence.
