THE DELEGATE 10 FRIDAY • OCTOBER 3, 2014 With Convention drawing to a close, we are excited to start gearing up for Communicating for Safety (CFS) 2015! This year, CFS will be held March 2-4, at the Rio Hotel in Las Vegas. Additionally, the CFS Planning Committee is excited to announce that Gordon Graham, the highly popular CFS 2014 keynote speaker, is returning for next year's conference! Graham divides his time between study, research, writing, speaking, and consulting in the discipline of risk management. His innovative programs, based on the values and beliefs he learned as a child along with a passion for continuous improvement, are the standard for any organization that wants to improve existing operations and prevent things from going wrong. CFS is the aviation industry's leading conference focusing on safety, technology and building relationships with other aviation professionals. CFS started as a small event with just 40 attendees in 1999; the conference is now regarded throughout the U.S. and international aviation industries as the premier aviation safety event, with over 1,400 in attendance at CFS 2014. Registration for Communicating for Safety 2015 will open on Monday, October 20. For more information on the conference, including NATCA member registration and frequently asked questions, visit natcacfs.com. Are you interested in politics? Do you follow legislation that affects aviation, organized labor, and government employees? Do you want to make a difference for your Union and your career? If you've answered "yes" to any of these questions, you should plan on attending our annual NATCA in Washington (NiW) lobby week, May 18-20! Every year over 400 NATCA brothers and sisters come to Washington to learn about the national issues affecting the Union, federal employees and aviation policy. Our Union continually faces new legislative challenges, and this year is sure to be no exception. NiW provides members with a tremendous opportunity to spend time on Capitol Hill, educating our elected officials on the vital work that we do for the National Airspace System and the flying public. Interested? Visit niw.natca.net for more information. Registration will open this spring. There are only a few more months to submit Archie League Award nominations for fellow NATCA members! All flight assists taking place this calendar year (January 1, 2014-December 31, 2014) are eligible for a nomination. It is best to nominate a member soon aer the flight assist to ensure all required nomination materials are available. You may nominate a NATCA member from any facility, not just your own. The awards banquet will take place during Communicating for Safety 2015 at the Rio in Las Vegas (March 2-4, 2015), and will mark the program's 11th year. Please review the helpful hints below before submitting your nomination. The nomination form and required materials have changed this year. • An audio/video clip of the flight assist must accompany the nomination form. Oentimes the audio/video is only kept on file for a couple months, so it is important to secure this material immediately following a flight assist. • Transcripts, statements, media coverage, thank you notes from pilots, supervisor recognition, and Insider newsletter articles can also be submitted for consideration. • Background information about the controller, including if he/she is a pilot, how many years he/she has been a controller, and any personal interaction with the pilot always complements a nomination. Nomination forms can be found on the members-only NATCA website. COMMUNICATING FOR SAFETY 2015 NATCA IN WASHINGTON 2015 CALL FOR NOMINATIONS: ARCHIE LEAGUE MEDAL OF SAFETY AWARDS
