THE DELEGATE FRIDAY • OCTOBER 3, 2014 7 FOUNDATIONS OF PROFESSIONALISM MINNESOTA SENATOR KLOBUCHAR TO ADDRESS NATCA CONVENTION BODY We are defined as professionals. Exhibiting professionalism is how we do the job that defines who we are. We exhibit professionalism not by simply following the rules but by continually striving to do more. We must lead, mentor, and inspire each day as we provide examples of our professionalism to others. By doing so, we instill in the public a trust in our National Airspace System. We recognize that our actions bring honor and respect to the profession. We recognize that our professionalism represents the character of everyone in this profession and sets the global standard for excellence. In 2006, Amy Klobuchar became the first woman elected to represent the state of Minnesota in the United States Senate. Prior to her election to the Senate, Sen. Klobuchar was a chief prosecutor in Hennepin County and partner at two prestigious law firms. Sen. Klobuchar has worked closely with NATCA since she was first elected and has attended NATCA in Washington (NiW) as a keynote speaker. Currently, Sen. Klobuchar sits on one of our most important committees in the Senate: the Senate Committee on Commerce, Science and Transportation Subcommittee on Aviation Operations, Safety, and Security. She is very active and involved with in NATCA's issues, specifically imposed work rules and NextGen implementation. Further, Sen. Klobuchar was very influential in making sure a legislative solution was passed quickly in the Senate when air traffic controllers were furloughed in 2013. Sen. Klobuchar graduated from Yale University and the University of Chicago Law School. Please join us in welcoming the Senator this morning! Earlier this year, NATCA and the FAA created "Foundations of Professionalism," an umbrella term encompassing the collaborative programs that enhance and further the goal of the encouraging and maintaining the highest level of professionalism among the workforce.
