WEEKLY MESSAGE FROM ATO COO TERI L. BRISTOL
Global Leadership Via The Caribbean Initiative
Hi, everyone! As you know, the Global Leadership Initiative is one of FAA's strategic
initiatives to transform how we prioritize and target resources to engage with the
international aviation community. We're using data to determine where we can make the
most difference. Even though countries are more connected than ever thanks to
technological advancements, the reality is that it's still a big world. Through our
international partnerships, we're exchanging information and best practices to make air
travel more seamless throughout the world.
Through the FAA's Caribbean Initiative, we're working with our partners in region and
the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) to enhance safety and improve
efficiency of travel to one of the world's most popular destinations. Each year, more than
7 million passengers fly from the United States to the Caribbean. We also expect air
traffic to grow as much as five to six percent in this region over the next two decades.

flights to Havana as well as nine Cuban airports outside of Havana. So, our interest in
this region is critical.
Last week, we hosted a roundtable discussion where Administrator Huerta outlined the
Caribbean Initiative with media and international partners. Representatives from the
embassies of Cuba, Bahamas and Jamaica attended as well as media from Florida and
the Caribbean. This week, FAA representatives participated in the Latin American and
Caribbean Air Transport Association Airline Leaders Forum in Mexico City. They
