We're also seeing committee chair shake - ups as the 114th Congress winds down and members get ready for the new 115th Congress. Chairman Bill Shuster will continue to serve as T&I Chairman. Click here to read NATCA's press release congratulating Chairman Shuster. Rep. Rodney Frelinghuysen (R - NJ) will become the new chair of the House App ropriations Committee, replacing Rep. Hal Rogers (R - KY) who was term - limited in the position. Stay tuned for more updates on changes to House and Senate committee assignments that are relevant to NATCA. 2016 ELECTION UPDATE As you know, Republicans mainta ined control of both the House and Senate in addition to winning the White House. Some races in Louisiana are headed to a Dec . 10 runoff, which will determine who wins the U.S. Senate race to replace retiring Sen. David Vitter, as well as the 3rd and 4th C ongressional districts in the U.S. House. We'll provide updates on those races in our next update. INTRODUCTION TO 115TH CONGRESS Members newly elected to Congress wrapped up their New Member Orientation in November. The new 115th Congress will convene o n Jan . 3, 2017 with President - Elect Donald Trump entering the White House. There will be many new faces in Congress, with both the House and Senate remaining in Republican control. The 115th House of Representatives will consist of at least 238 Republicans and 193 Democrats, a net gain of 7 seats for Democrats (the final tally will be determined once the remaining races mentioned above are called). The 115th Senate will consist of 52 Republica ns and 48 democrats, a gain of two seats for Democrats . (Louisian a is largely expected to remain a Republican seat.)
