March to September. We've now broadened the review to look at our performance during other important traffic periods like snowbird season (Thanksgiving through Spring Break) and ski season (Thanksgiving through Marti n Luther King, Jr. w eekend), as well as throughout the whole year. This year nearly 150 people attended the NAS Performance Review, including air traffic facility leadership (Traffic Management Officers, Air Traffic Managers, and District Managers), majo r airline officials, and representatives from the National Busine ss Aviation Association and NAV CANADA. We formed breakout sessions so that participants could work together to address issues such as delay distribution and the impact of miles - in - trail in the NAS, communication and Time Based Flow Management during snowbird season, improving communication about weather forecasts, traffic increases at Seattle Airport , and runway construction at Denver Airport, among others. The groups looked at how we coul d improve the planning and execution phases of PERTI , a NAS - wide effort that began in August. PERTI stands for: Plan, Execute, Review, Train , and Improve. As part of PERTI, we've moved our daily air traffic planning up a few days. So for instance, if we expect a major weather problem in a certain part of the country three days from now, we will tell our customers what traffic management initiatives we intend to employ on that day. This gives our c ustomers more lead time so they can better manage their resources. Then after we execute the plan on a given day, we assess how it worked and its impact — and what, if anything, could have been done differently. Once reviewed, the plan is documented and us ed to train our workforce and so we can make improvements in the future. Thus far, our customers believe that the advanced planning we're providing through PERTI is making a difference. The benefits of the NAS Performance Review are numerous. ATO and ind ustry are working with open dialogue and greater connectivity, and using the lessons learned to further boost performance — all of which helps us fulfill our mission to ensure the safest and most efficient aerospace system in the world. Thanks everyone, T eri L. Bristol ATO Chief Operating Officer
