NATCA NATIONAL OFFICE DEPARTMENTAL WEEK IN REVIEW December 17 - 31 , 2016 LABOR RELATIONS DEPARTMENT FIREFOX INFORMATION REQUEST On Dec . 21, 2016, NATCA received a briefing from the Agency about an information request the Agency will send out to employees who have Firefox software installed on their FAA computers, including approximately 186 NATCA - represented bargaining unit employees (BUEs) . The purpose of the information request is to determine whether employees who have Firefox have a need for the softwa re. The information request is in response to recent notices regarding securi ty vulnerabilities in Firefox. Firefox is not currently supported by the Office of Information & Technology Services (AIT). The Agency will send the information request via Surve yMonkey to the employees' FAA email addresses and will request that the employees respond with: (1) the employee's FAA email address; (2) the employee's computer name(s); (3) whether the employee still requires Firefox; and (4) a justification for why the e mployee still requires Firefox. If an employee does not respond to the information request by Jan . 27, 2017, then the Agency will consider the lack of response to mean that the employee no longer needs/requires Firefox. Once the Agency has obtained the in formation, it will develop a plan to remove the software if it is no longer needed or develop a process to manage it where it is needed. During the briefing, NATCA explained that second - level engineers have dual - purpose computers that support the NAS, an d these computers use Firefox. A workgroup already exists to address changes to software or hardware for computers that support the NAS. The Agency agreed to address this issue as it applies to the second - level en gineers through this workgroup.
