During the past 30 days the JSpOG provided launch and recovery support for the following: • Astra L-10 • Blue Origin New Shepard • Space X Falcon 9 Tel Star 19 • Space X Falcon 9 Iridium 7 Remote Offshore Meteorology Information Demonstration (ROMIO) The ROMIO program is an effort to bring real time long-range modeling and depiction of oceanic convective weather into the cockpit. NATCA participates in Workgroup bi-weekly meetings. The scheduled March 2017 launch date slipped but all three participant air carriers have completed or will shortly complete pilot training and equipage. American, United, and Delta completed pilot training with all Check Airmen ROMIO certified. On July 25, I met with Eldridge Frazier the ROMIO Project Manager. The full launch of the ROMIO Demo continues to be held up by contractual issues between the FAA and the providers of satellite broadband needed to drive the ROMIO cockpit presentation. Workgroup will meet again on August 15 to brief the latest program status. Leesburg Remote Tower The next phase of RTS operations at JYO, known as Phase 3a, began on June 27 and is currently nearing the end of this trial run. I participated in multiple meetings on this issue and wrote a whitepaper for leadership on the issues involved. On July 17, I met with Andras Kovacs from ANG-C to provide a Remote Tower Services briefing for Adam Rhodes, incoming Nextgen Representative National Safety and Technology Leadership Committee (NSTLC) The NSTLC convened in Kansas City on July 12-13. Due to the ALPA Space meeting discussions below I was unable to attend. Incoming Nextgen Rep Adam Rhodes was in in attendance. ALPA-Coordinated Space Activities Meeting ALPA issued a white paper detailing their concerns regarding the Commercial Space gold rush. In order to maximize the impact of their activities, ALPA requested that NATCA, along with other aviation organizations such as AAAE and MITRE, meet at their D.C. Headquarters on July 11 to discuss shared concerns regarding the impact of Commercial Space activities on the level of safety in the NAS. Alternative Level Of Safety (ALR) DCP SRMP This SRMP met in Alexandria the week of July 16. During the course of the panel, hazards were identified, mitigations assigned, and a Hazard Worksheet (HAW) was developed. Mark Prestrude attended as SME and I attended as panelist. The panel successfully concluded on July 18. TBO/RTA Path Stretch HITL On Thursday, June 26, I attended the TBO RTA HITL held at MITRE. Jeff Woods, Phil Hargarten, and Ed Hulsey attended the HITL as SMEs. I attended as an observer primarily to familiarize incoming NextGen Rep Adam Rhodes, also in attendance, with automation, such as Required Time of Arrival, being developed to support Trajectory Based Ops in the NAS.
