Dynamic Weather Operational Needs Assessment (ONA) - The dynamic weather ONA team has developed scenarios to depict example issues of how inaccurate weather on the glass can affect air traffic operations. The goal of the scenarios is to demonstrate different examples of different weather situations and the potential impacts to the National Air Space (NAS). Any examples of AP or poor weather being depicted on the glass and the operational impacts are needed. If you have any instances that you can pass along please email them to weather@natca.net along with your facility ID and contact. Graphical Turbulence Guidance - Nowcast (GTGN) Safety Risk Management (SRM) Panel - On July 22, an SRM panel was held to identify safety issues associated with introducing the GTGN product to NAS. The GTGN product is scheduled to be an operational product in 2022 or 2023 and will eventually be hosted by the NWS. Currently the GTGN is hosted at the National Center for Atmospheric Research, and Delta Air Lines has been testing the product for the last several years. The GTGN ingests real-time radar data, aircraft data, and the model updates every 15 minutes to provide a short-term turbulence product. Delta pilots have reported the product is a "game changer", and has had very positive results in identifying clear air turbulence associated with convection, mountain waves, etc. The SRM panel identified issues and addressed safety concerns to allow the product to deploy in its current state to other stakeholders in the NAS before the NWS is ready to host the operational pro. July 29-August 4, 2019 Update Aaron Rose (NCT) is the new TFDM Art 114 Rep and Kyle Ness is the new Art 114 TAMR Rep. Welcome Aboard! NAS MONITORING EQUIPMENT (NME) Corrie Conrad (PDX) is the Article 114 Rep for Navaids Monitoring Equipment (NME), Integrated Control Monitoring System (ICMS), and Remote Radio Control System (RRCS). Her report is below: At its JRC IID decision point, AJM-4 decided that NME should transition to its appropriate org within the PMO, AJM-32, Navigation Services. At the request of the receiving org, the planned June 2019 IID date shifted to September 2019. AJM-32 requested time to understand and align with the Preferred Alternative. From the AJM-41 perspective, the Preferred Alternative remains Alt 2 – FA-30000 (UIC)-based solution with SW upgrade to V3+. When the transition occurs shortly after IID, the project lead will be transferred, and I will be put in contact with the new lead. RRCS Update - We will be conducting the Critical Design Review (CDR) in September. TERMINAL AUTOMATION MODERNIZATION REPLACEMENT (TAMR) Kyle Ness (M98) is the NATCA TAMR Article 114 Rep. His report is below: Recognition goes to the outgoing Article 114 Rep Aaron Rose for the stellar job he did leading the TAMR NATCA team. The role NATCA plays in the continued success of TAMR deployment and sustainment cannot be understated and is due much in part to Aaron's work and coordination efforts.
