LEGISLATIVE ACTIVISM AWARDS FEATURED REMARKS NiW Today n i w . n a t c a . n e t REP. BILL SHUSTER Chairman, House Transportation and Infrastructure Committee (January 2012-present) Representative, Pennsylvania, 9th District (2001 – present) Join us at 2:00 p.m. on Monday in the Regency Ballroom to welcome the Chairman! Chairman Shuster has served on the House Transportation and Infrastructure (T&I) Commiee since being elected to Congress in 2001, and was elevated to his current position as Chairman in the 113th Congress. Chairman Shuster has dedicated his tenure in Congress to transportation and has a reputation of being one of the most bipartisan commiee chairs in the House. During the FAA furloughs in April 2013, Chairman Shuster led the fight in the House Republican Conference to end the furloughs and put FAA aviation safety professionals back to work. Since then, he has been working with NATCA and other aviation stakeholders on how to best address the problems created by an unstable, unpredictable funding stream. Chairman Shuster regularly reaches out to NATCA leadership for guidance on aviation issues as well as issues that affect our workforce. NATCA is truly fortunate to have so many of its members display selfless dedication to our legislative efforts. Their commitment is reflected in our many successes and the overall level of activism in our membership. These leaders understand the importance of legislative activism at both the national and local levels, and have inspired other members through grassroots efforts. One voice truly makes a difference. The NATCA legislative team is reliant upon the collective strength of those voices and is deeply proud to honor a NATCAvist each year who has taken our efforts to a new and exciting level. This week, NATCA and the National Legislative Commiee (NLC) will continue its tradition of honoring outstanding NATCA members for their work. The Trish Gilbert Legislative Activism Award recognizes their extraordinary legislative activism throughout their careers in service to the Union. The NLC renamed the award after Gilbert following her election in 2009 as Executive Vice President. She had previously chaired the NLC and also served as Southwest Region Legislative Representative. Previous winners of the Trish Gilbert Legislative Activism Award include Toby Hauck (2014, pictured above), Mitch Herrick (2013), Betsy Beaumont and AnnMarie Taggio (2012), Brody McCray (2011), Mark Griffin (2010), Trish Gilbert (2010), and Linda Miller (2009).* NATCA also congratulates the winners of this year's regional legislative awards, which will be presented individually during the regional breakout meetings. These NATCAvists have shown a great dedication to the legislative efforts of their respective regions. They were selected by their regional NLC member and their regional vice president. *Note: In 2009, the award was called the National Legislative Activism Award before it was re-named for Gilbert the following year. 6
