WMAQ - TV CHICAGO NBC : Ch. 5 in Chicago ran a story Nov. 2 about ZAU
being honored by the Air Traffic Control Association for efforts to restore ATC services
after last year's arson fire. ZAU FacRep Toby Hauck was interviewed on camera at the

Remote Towers – Leesburg, Va.: As detailed in our NextGen Now
modernization update e - book, and also in each week's Safety and Technology update in
this report, NATCA is a part of a collaborative effort at Lees burg, Va., to safely and
effectively install and test new remote tower technology developed by Saab. Last week,
we participated in a press conference which included NATCA President Paul Rinaldi as
a speaker. Paul was also interviewed individually by severa l media outlets. Below are

LOCAL TV NEWS "SWEEPS MONTH" IS HERE (AGAIN): The Communi cations
Department reminds all FacR eps and members that November is one of four months
throughout the year called "sweeps" in the television news media business. May, July
and February are also designated sweeps months. During sweeps, a company called
"Nielsen" measures the viewership of TV programming. Those programs that have the
most viewership can then charge more money for advertising during commercial slots.
Aviation and ATC are among the many traditional topics that make for
sensationalized stories to draw viewer interest and thus bo ost a news program's or
show's ratings. Many stories, if not inaccurate, are misleading and intentionally focused
