COMMUNICATIONS DEPARTMENT NATCA PRESIDENT PAUL RINALDI TESTIFIES BEFORE HOUSE T&I COMMITTEE R inaldi: "Status Quo is Unacceptable" On May 17, Rinaldi, at a hearing before the House Transportation and Infrastructure Committee about FAA and air traffic control reform, promised to fight for labor protections in any legislation, outlined why we must ha ve a stable, predictable funding stream, and made clear that "we do not believe there is only one solution to the problems." Written testimony Video of the hearing Full coverage: In the May 19 issue of the NATCA Insider STAT OF THE WEEK 10,532 That's the total number of CPCs as of March 18, 2017, our latest snapshot for the staffing crisis that we reported to the House T&I Committee in Paul's t estimony this week. The number is a drop from the 10,619 last fall. CPC totals have fallen every year since 2012 and are now at a 28 - year low. ATC staffing graphic, with totals on all categories including retirement eligibility. PRESS CLIPS OF THE WEEK Las Vegas FAA Public Affairs worked to grant a request from Las Vegas TV station KSNV to give viewers a behind - the - scenes look at the jobs of air traffic controllers at both Las Vegas Tower (LAS) and Las Vegas TRACON (L30). The story aired on May 18 and turned out very well. It was strengthened by great on - camera interviews by our own FacReps Jamaal Haltom ( LAS) and Anthony Borgert (L30). Watch here Boston ABC News: Watch as the story is told about the 2017 New England Region Archie League Medal of Safety Award and NATCA President 's Award - winning flight assist involving the great work of Boston Logan Tower NATCA members Eric J. Knight and Ross Leshinsky. The controllers were interviewed by reporter David Kerley at Comm unicating For Safety . Watch here (Note: You will need a Facebook account to view the video ) Kansas City Kansas City Center air traffic controllers Jeffrey Volski and Andrew Cullen displayed calm and reassurance under pressure to help the pilot of a small plane who was battling severe icing conditions last December. The pilot landed safely at Hannibal Airport. Because of this flight assist, NATCA honored Volski and Cullen wit h the Archie League Medal of Safety Award, at NATCA's awards banquet in Las Vegas on March 22, 2017.
