Letter to the Editor Printed – Greensboro, N.C. News & Record : Rep . Walker supports air traffic controllers Aviation is important to North Carolina and it's a major economic engine for our country. But our National Airspace System (NAS) is currently facing a nationwide air traffic controller staffing crisis. We have rea ched a 28 - year low in the number of fully certified professional controllers, and the problem will likely get worse before it gets better. Nearly one - third of controllers na tionwide are eligible to retire. Fortunately, U.S. Rep. Mark Walker, who represent s North Carolina's 6th District, is well aware of this risk and other issues that affect the controller workforce. He has been eager to learn more about a wide range of aviation issues and how he can help resolve some of these challenges — visiting FAA air traffic control facilities in North Carolina to see firsthand the outstanding job that air traffic controllers do on a daily basis. We thank Congressman Walker for his interest in the NAS and his support of air traffic controllers. Katie Cooper Summerfi eld (NATCA GSO Member) MISS AN IMPORTANT MEMBER - WIDE EMAIL?
