SAFETY AND TECHNOLOGY DEPARTMENT SURVEY – TRAINING The FAA over the next year will be reviewing many aspects of air traffic training, including proficiency a nd skill enhancement training. One goal is to identify training topics that may need to be updated, while investigating new and more effectiv e methods in program delivery. Your participa tion in completing the linked survey conducted by the FAA ' s Center of Excellence for Technical Training a nd Human Performance will assist them in identifying the topics and delivery methods to be examined. SURVEY – IFR/VFR CONFLICTS ATO's Safety and Technical Training group (AJI) has been asked to assess the effectiveness of awareness campaign materials related to I FR/VFR conflicts. The purpose of this survey is to gather opinions on how IFR and VFR traffic is handled at your facility. The goal at this time is to gather baseline information on the current culture, attitudes, and behaviors related to managing potentia l IFR/VFR conflicts. The plan is to provide a follow - up survey in about a year, to assess changes in attitudes or behavior related to IFR/VFR conflicts. Please click this link to take the survey: http://survey.sogosurvey.com/r/bmp5mY NATCA Safety & Tech nology Dep artment Upd ate Week of Nov. 13, 2017 AUTOMATED T ERMINAL PROXIMITY ALERT (ATPA) Mike Sanders (SCT) represents the membership as the Article 114 Repre sentative for ATPA. Mr. Sanders's report is below. We are current ly in development for controller training in an ELMS course that was projecte d to be completed in December. B ut due to Serco's programmer inv olved in a serious car accident, the project is now projected to be complete late January. More to come as it becomes available until then our prayers go ou t to the programmer for speedy and healthy recovery. At this point if any facility has a desire to adapt ATPA, we need to wait until the ELMS training is complete. Please contact me so we can go over the process and add you to the list. Mike Sanders, SoCa l TRACON, National ATPA Lead, laxapproach@icloud.com DATACOMM Chad Geyer (ZLA) is the Article 1 14 Representative for DataComm. Below is his update. Last week Controller Pilot Data Link Communication (CPDLC) s ites sent over 5 , 400 clearances a day. LAX takes the lead in CPDLC clearances by sending over 2 , 100 clearances for the week, followed closely by ATL with 1 , 900 and DEN and LAS with 1 , 470. CPDLC operations compared to a percent of all operations are led b y MDW. MDW has almost 60% of all IFR operations that are CPDLC equipped. OAK comes in second with almost 50% of all IFR operations and BWI follows closely with 48%. DAL and HOU are close to 46%. Congratulations to ADW for becoming the first PDC site that h as been upgraded to CPDL C. ADW declared IOC on Nov. 8th.
