NATCA will pore over every detail in the draft bill when it is finally released and only then
will decide NATCA's position on the bill. According to Rinaldi and Gilbert, if there are
provisions we cannot l ive with, we will spare no effort to change them. And, if we cannot
change them to our satisfaction, we will have no choice but to oppose the bill.
As stated earlier, the current FAA Authorization expires on September 30, and at
this point it has become c lear that even if the House is able to introduce, mark up, and
vote on the bill, it would not leave the Senate enough time to do the same. An extension
is expected to become a top priority for committee staff in both the House and the
Senate to buy more ti me to work on the "transformative" FAA Reauthorization. NATCA
government affairs staff will be meeting with House and Senate committee staffs to
discuss NATCA priorities for the inevitable extension.
COMMUNICATIONS DEPARTMENT
VOTE NATCA! Communications Dept. Joins Union's Large Get - Out - The - Vote
Effort for AFN Employees
Last week, the 1,300 BUEs in the newly realigned AFN unit (FAA Office of
Finance and Management) began receiving their ballots from the FLRA in an election to
decide which union will be their exclusive bargaining representative. They have until
Sept. 23 to return the ballots to the FLRA by mail. NATCA is working hard to win their
votes. The Communications Department joined other National Office departments and
the National Organizing Committee in continuing a large - scale and comprehensive effort
to reach ou t to each AFN BUE to urge them to VOTE NATCA and answer any questions
they have about what NATCA can do to better their careers and working conditions.
We assisted with efforts to draft, edit, and send out daily email messages to each
AFN BUE, updated our main organizing website, www.thenatcadifference.com , helped
staff our weekly information booth at FAA HQ (where more than 400 AFN employees
work), and made phone calls to AFN BUEs.
