NEWS AND NOTES FROM THE PUBLIC AFFAIRS SHOP:
• We continue to field media requests asking about the year ahead in aviation
policy issues, particularly on the funding issue and FAA Reauthorization. The
latest one came in from Stephanie Beasley of Bloomberg BNA. We prepared
these talking points, for use by EVP Trish Gilbert in a scheduled interview Jan. 7:
1. NATCA wants to see a bill that achieves stable funding. The current
funding system is unacceptable. Stable funding would fix many, if not all
our problems.
2. The stop and start, ki ck - the - can approach to government funding that has
dominated the last several years has tied the FAA ' s hands in many ways.
In 2013, sequestration budget cuts forced the FAA to shut down all hiring
and training of new controllers for 10 months. That can't h appen again in
light of the current severe shortage.
3. We look forward to reviewing what the House Transportation and
Infrastructure Committee proposes for FAA reauthorization. Again, we
hope it will provide long - term solutions to these problems.

• Charlotte NextGen Media Event: Over the past few w eeks, we have continued
to prepare for a Jan. 8 media event in Charlotte with FAA Public Affairs about
successful NextGen programs. NATCA NextGen Project Management
Organization Representative Jeff Woods will be our main speaker, joining FAA
Assistant Admi nistrator for NextGen Ed Bolton among other representatives from
various stakeholders. CLT FacRep Anthony Schifano and CLT member and
NATCA ATD - 2 National Rep. Pete Slattery will also participate.
