MEMBER FOCUS OF THE WEEK Mike Warren (Anchorage Ce nter) Mike, a 10 - year veteran member, talks passionately about his favorite NATCA moment. " Both my Basic Rep Training and LEAP Training were life - changing, " he says. " The people who instructed these classes and the content of the classes made these experie nces ridiculously valuable and fun. The training that NATCA provides has not only made me a better rep and member, but it has helped make me a better person. " Read more here. FACILITY SPOTLIGHT S OF THE WEEK Kalamazoo (AZO) The re are 21 NATCA members at AZO . The level 6 up/down facility was recently remodeled and has been in service from early 2014. Controllers at AZO work airspace encompas sing a large portion of southwest Michigan from surface level up to 10,000 feet. "We host several NATCA meetings each year to discuss issues and ideas to make our facility better," says FacRep Jason Glazer. "Participation is very high and people are enth usiastic to be involved." AZO will be hosting a NATCA cookout this summer and controllers are also planning a solidarity event. They plan to invite nearby facilities to attend. Glazer says that the local atmosphere at AZO is excellent, referring to the ar ea as the " Gem of Western M ichigan." "The facility is brand new, the people are outstanding, and the traffic is fun," he says. "The Kalamazoo area is phenomenal with little to no (car) traffic, but lots of things to do." Read more here. Pasco Tri - Cities (PSC) There are currently 24 NATCA members at PSC . They have been a proud 100 percent membership facility since summer of 2016. The facility itself is a level 6 tower/TRACON that was commissioned in 1973. PSC is the primary approach control for the on - site tower, Walla Walla Regional (ALW), Eastern Oregon Regional (PDT), Yakima Air Terminal (YKM) , and many other non - tower controlled airports. The ai rspace delegated to the TRACON is one of the largest approach control airspaces in the nation, approximately 8,361 square miles in two states from surface level to 10,000 feet. "The local atmosphere is very family oriented," FacRep Jordon Castro says. "We all take care of each other and rely on one and other to get the job done." He said the best part of being the FacRep is the amount of p rofessionalism each member in his facility brings to the table. "Everyone in the unit ta kes so much pride in what we d o," he said. " That, in my opinion, separates us from the rest." Read more here. COMMUNICATING FOR SAFETY – MARCH 20 - 22, BALLY'S LAS VEGAS Event website: Please click here. Agenda: Please click here .
