· The wee k of September 21st was spent at the ICAO Wake Turbulence Study Group Meeting. This workgroup is working on several Wake Turbulence issues around the world including: an international 6 category wake turbulence table, Enroute Wake mitigation solutions, Hel icopter wake turbulence issues, and several others. o The main focus has been the 6 category table. This is supposed to be designed for the more underdeveloped countries in the world. The U.S. and Eurocontrol have not been able to resolve their differenc es so far. A last gasp type of schedule has been planned with ICAO inclusion in every meeting between the U.S. and Eurocontrol. o We will see if that is more effective than the past couple of years. I gave a presentation concerning En - Route Wake Mitigati on. It seemed to be received well with several comments asking for further conversations with individual ANSPs. · The week of September 28th was spent traveling to D.C. to meet with the agency about RECAT Phase II. There seems to be some concern w ithin the agency about Phase II. Although it will be a simple process to work at the facilities it is a very complex process to implement. o One of the other issues is the agencies desire to look at a complex 7 category system. NATCA is requesting that s ome simulation studies be done on any complex categories beyond 6. o We need to ensure that the controller work load is not adversely effected by adding more separations that the controller is required to memorize. o The rest of the week was spent on p reparing for the implementation of RECAT in Denver and SCT, who will be the next two facilities to use the new separations.
